Conservation and Sustainable Utilization of Marine Resources in Andaman Coastal Areas through Our Teaching and Learning

Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RUTS) is committed to monitoring and protecting marine resources in Andaman coastal areas through our teaching and learning. Our Marine Science course is provided for students who want to understanding of coastal and marine systems. The course will cover the physical, chemical, and geological aspects of oceanography, as well as marine biology, the coastal environment, and the interrelationships between the disciplines.
SCUBA diving is one of the intensive subject of our marine science courses. The course is operated by action learning base strategy under cooperation with diving agency. It is provided in the third semester of the study schedule. After one month learning both scuba theory in the classroom and practical training in the sea, students will get more experiences in diving activity by cooperate with partner organizations outside university, including tourism companies, ministry of marine resources, tourisms authority of Thailand, and research institutions. Students will have the opportunity to joint in several diving events organized in the Trang Sea areas, for example reef surveying, diving to collect garbage projects and diving guard in tourist agencies. Particularly reef survey, the students have to integrate the basic knowledge in marine science (marine ecology, surveying techniques, and marine biodiversity) to complete their work under supervise by expertise.
Diving to collect the garbage is annual project running by the Trang tourisms authority that students will joint as public service diver together with other volunteers. Base on this practice, students will convince in their SCUBA experiences after finished the course.
