Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RUTS) is committed to protecting and restoring coastal resources through research and innovation. Dr. Supatcha Chooseangjaew, as a lecturer was working on the intensive project, which the title is “the oysters for development of High-Density System of Oyster to Raise Local Economy in Palian Basin, Trang Province”. This project composed of two systems of oyster culture as: 3-Layers Sliding Plastic Mesh Nets and 3-Layer Plastic Baskets by Hanging. Surely, the important benefits from this project help to increase the carrying capacity of oysters per 9 square meters area. This is an innovative project that is expected to improve the well-being and quality of life in local fishing communities while also achieving sustainable of oyster culture in Palian Basin, Trang Province.

A semi-juvenile oyster culture was experimentally designed with 3-Layers Sliding Plastic Mesh Nets with a sieve size of 0.5 cm. Initial experiment of oyster had an average shell length of 0.76 cm and an average shell width of 0.71 cm. The plastic sieves were then divided into 4 sets including 150, 300, 450 and 600 individual per plastic of over a 7-month culture period. At the end of experiment, the growth rate of shell width (AGRW), the shell length (AGRL), the specific growth rate and the survival rate were increasingly observed, but they are not differed among the experiments.

In addition, this innovation received the Gold Medal Award from the  6 th  International Invention Innovation Competition in Canada, iCAN 2021, and the Bronze Award from the National Innovation Contest, “Regional Research Expo and Inventor's Day 2021” organized by the national research council of Thailand.
