The government assigned Rajamangala Institute of Technology to establish the bachelor degree in Trang Campus because the southern part of Thailand was the area that the government wanted to develop in many ways. Moreover, Thailand was moving towards an industrialized country . Thus, an undergraduate institution should be established to produce personnel with sufficient knowledge to meet the country's manpower needs. Rajamangala Institute of Technology considered that producing graduates to increase the potential of the country, the institute should produce science and technology personnel with knowledge, both theoretical and practical to support the economic expansion of the southern region according to Southern Seaboard Development Project. Thus the institute proposed to establish the Faculty of Science and Fisheries Technology in Trang. The progressive of this project from the beginning to the present time are as the following:

Rjamangala Institute of Technology requested permission to use the National Forest in Pakklongkalasay and Pakklongmaitai in Moo 3, Maifad ,Sikao, Trang with total approximate area about 1,700 rai (672 acres) for the location of Science and Fisheries Technology in Trang campus.
November 20, 1990
The Cabinet approved the principles for the establishing the Faculty of Science and Fisheries Technology in Trang . This is consistent with the South Coast Economic and Social Development Plan. The Bureau of the Budget approved the budget up to 8,770,000 baht.
March 26, 1991
The Rajamangala Institute of Technology had the statement in the code number 585/2534 dated on March 26, 1991 appointing a committee and subcommittee of Environmental Impact Assessment Project for the establishment of the Faculty of Fisheries and Technology, Sikao, Trang because some area used in the establishment was mangrove forest area.

The Ministry of University Affairs approved the faculty’s curriculums in 3 departments : Aquaculture, Fishery industry and Fishery management.

The Cabinet Secretariat announced of the internal government division (the establishing the Faculty of Science and Fisheries Technology) of Rajamangala Institute of Technology in the Government Gazette Vol. 109, Part 80, dated July 24, 1992.

The Ministry of University Affairs gave approval to the Faculty's curriculum to add 1 more department, marine science. (New curriculum B.E. 2540)
1999
The Faculty of Science and Fisheries Technology opened an additional curriculum, Tourism (using the curriculum from Faculty of Liberal Arts, Rajamangala Institute of Technology).

The Ministry of University Affairs approved the curriculum: Aquaculture - Fisheries Engineering. (New curriculum B.E. 2542)
2001
The Ministry of University Affairs approved to open a department of computer technology (using the curriculum from the Faculty of Science Technology) in Faculty of Science and Fisheries Technology.

At that time, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej was graciously pleased to proclaim that as it was appropriate to establish Rajamangala University of Technology instead of Rajamangala Institute of Technology. The King graciously ordered "Rajamangala university Act, B.E. 2548 " according to the advice and consent of the parliament by granting Rajamangala Institute of Technology according to the Rajamangala Institute of Technology, Act, B.E. 2518, to be 9 Rajamangala Universities of Technology. Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya is one of the nine universities.
