The government has assigned Rajamangala Institute of Technology to establish a bachelor’s degree institution in Trang Province. This decision is based on the consideration that the southern region is poised for significant development by the government in various aspects. Additionally, as Thailand is currently transitioning into an industrialized nation, it is deemed appropriate to establish a higher education institution to produce skilled personnel to meet the country’s workforce demands. Rajamangala Institute of Technology recognizes that in order to enhance the country’s potential through the production of bachelor’s degree-level manpower, it is necessary to produce personnel in the fields of science and technology who possess both theoretical and practical knowledge. This will support the economic expansion of the southern region as part of the Southern Seaboard Development Project. Consequently, the institute has proposed the establishment of the Faculty of Science and Fisheries Technology in Trang Province. The progress of this project, from its inception to the present, is summarized as follows:

November 20, 1990

The Cabinet approved in principle the establishment of the Faculty of Science and Fisheries Technology in Trang Province. This aligns with the Southern Seaboard Economic and Social Development Plan. The Bureau of the Budget has also approved a budget of 8,770,000 baht.

March 26, 1991

Rajamangala Institute of Technology issued Order No. 585/2534 on March 26, 1991, appointing a committee and subcommittee for the Environmental Impact Study Project for the establishment of the Faculty of Science and Fisheries Technology in Sikao District, Trang Province. This is due to the fact that part of the land used for the establishment is a mangrove forest.

March 26, 1991

The University Affairs Department approved the curriculum for the Faculty in three disciplines: Aquaculture, Fisheries Industry, and Fisheries Management.

April 1997

The university council approved adding another program to the faculty’s curriculum, namely Marine Science (new curriculum, 2540 BE).

September 1999

The university council has approved the faculty launching a new program: Aquaculture – Fisheries Engineering (new curriculum, 2542 BE).

2001

The university council approved the faculty to open an additional program, Computer Technology, using the curriculum of the Faculty of Science, Rajamangala Institute of Technology.

2007

The Ministry of Education has announced the division of departments within Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya.

October 3, 2007

Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya has announced the division of the Faculty of Fisheries Science and Technology departments.

The division of departments into academic disciplines is as follows.

  1. Marine Science
  2. Fisheries Technology
  3. Environmental Science
  4. Technology
  5. General Education

Next, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya announced the further division of the Faculty of Science and Fisheries Technology departments as follows:
